Hey ๐
Few days a go i showed you how to mine ZCash on windows with CPU and GPU, meanwhile ethOS released their new update and theyย added support for zcash mining! So.. i decided to change my first mining rig to mine zcash instead of ethereum. If you want to do the same follow this steps, also if you want to build a new rig to mine ZCash you can use the same configuration i used with Asus Strix AMD Radeon R7 370 4GB (full tutorial here), or Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 480 8gb OC (full tutorial here).
First thing is to update ethOS to the latest version by typing in terminal “sudo ethos-update && sleep 5 && sudo reboot“, this command will update to the latest version and once done the rig will reboot automatically, if the updated get stuck try this command “sudo ethos-update reupdate”
Ok, updated done, with this easy steps you will start to mine ZCash in no time!
- Access local.conf by typing in terminal “nano local.conf“
- First thing is to remove mem and core settings, delete them completely and test the rig first with stock settings
- Change wallet on in same line with “proxywallet“
- Where proxypool1 is i used zcash.flypool.org (owner of ethermine), so we will have “proxywallet1 eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3333” and as backup we will have “proxywallet2 us1-zcash.flypool.org:3333“
- And final, add a new line with this code to switch from ethereum to zcash “globalminer zcash-miner“
- Now reboot by typing “r” in terminal and hit enter
You have successfully switched from ethereum to zcash! ๐
The rig is mining 85 h/s with stock settings, i will leave it like this for a while and then ill try to increase mem and core.
Ill keep you updated on this with new mem and core settings, hopefully this will go up to 95 – 100 H/s we had in with ethereum!
UPDATE: November 5, 2016
Made some tests with core/mem settings, here is what i got so far!
1100/1500 = 15H/s , total 90H/s (stable)
1125/1475 = 14.8H/s – 15H/s, total 90H/s (stable)
1160/1600 = 15.5H/s – 16H/s, total 93H/s (unstable, for me)
1175/1600 = 16.2H/s, total 97.2H/s (unstable, for me)
UPDATE: November 6, 2016
New ethOS is released 1.1.4, update ASAP, this will increase your hashing speed!
My rig is hashing now at 150h/s with globalcore 1100 and globalmem 1500
I tried to use higher settings but the rig is very unstable..
UPDATE NOW!
UPDATE: November 13, 2016
Since the 1.1.4 ethOS version ZCash (ZEC) is much profitable than Ethereum (ETH).
The thing is that since my last update i jumped from 90H/s -> 150H/s and now to 270H/s (YES), how ? Again, thanks to ethOS by implementing silentarmy miner, this will ridiculously will give you more than double hash speed, how to upgrade? SIMPLE!!
Follow this steps to upgrade to silentarmy miner:
- First of all stop your miner by writing “minestop” then “disallow” and last “r” , so we will first stop the miner then disable automatic start and last restart, is better to do it with fresh restart.
- Type “sudo su” and then your password to become root, or if you are remotely type “root” and then your password.
- In terminal type: cd /usr/local/bin/ && disallow && minestop && rm silentarmy && rm sa-solver
- Then add: wget http://ethosdistro.com/miner/sa-solver && wget http://ethosdistro.com/miner/silentarmy
- And the last: chmod +x silentarmy && chmod +x sa-solver && allow && show miner
- Once you hit the last command the miner will automatically start, that’s it!
- If any problem occurs and you would like to revert to ethOS 1.1.4, run: sudo ethos-update reupdate
My R7 370s rig went from 150H/s to 270H/s
UPDATE NOW AND GET ALL THE COINS!
UPDATE: November 19, 2016
New ethOS update ppl.. again i doubled the speed for 370s rig, hashing speed jumped again from 270 H/s (previous 170 H/s and with the first release was 90 H/s) to 500 H/s, here is what you have to do.
- Update ethOS by typing this command in terminal: sudo repair-ethos-update && sudo ethos-update && sleep 5 && r
- Access “nano local.conf“
- Replace “globalminer zcash-miner” with “globalminer optiminer-zcash“
- reboot
- That’s it!
I have also modified core and mem settings
globalcore 1150
globalmem 1500
UPDATE: January 7, 2017
I am in a bit late with this update but as you already know the latest version of ethOS 1.1.8 have come with a better speed for zCash, my 370’s rig now can hash up to 863.xx H/s ๐ that’s very impressive.. around 145H/s per GPU
Also there was a major change, they have added claymore as global miner, after the update you can replace “globalminer optiminer-zcash” with “globalminer claymore-zcash”
- Update ethOS by typing this command in terminal: sudo repair-ethos-update && sudo ethos-update && sleep 5 && r
- Access “nano local.conf“
- Replace “globalminer optiminer-zcash” with “globalminer claymore-zcash“
- reboot
- That’s it!
Again i had to modify mem and core to:
globalcore 1160
globalmem 1500
UPDATE: January 20, 2017
Here is another update from ethOS!
What’s new in version 1.1.9:
- Updated claymore-zcash to 11.1, resulting in faster zcash hashrates
- Updated optiminer-zcash to 1.4.0, resulting in faster zcash hashrates
- Updated sgminer to 5.5.5, resulting in better stability for XMR mining
I am going to test both coaymore zcash and optiminer zcash to see the difference between this two miner and to decide which one is better to mine ZCash.
First of all update ethOS to 1.1.9 by typing in terminal “sudo repair-ethos-update && sudo ethos-update && sleep 5 && r“, wait for the update and reboot and it’s done.
A Claymore-zcash 11.1
Previous hashrate: 860 H/s
Current hashrate: 983 H/s
B Optiminer-zcash 1.4.0
Previous hashrate: 500 H/s
Current hashrate: 745 H/s
Looks like, again, claymore is the best miner for ZCash increasing the profits! Choose wisely ๐
Actual ethOS local.conf for ZCash
stratumproxy enabled
proxypool1 eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3333
proxypool2 us1-zcash.flypool.org:3333
flags –cl-global-work 8192 –farm-recheck 200
globalfan 85
globalpowertune 20
autoreboot 3
globaldriver fglrx
globalcore 1160
globalmem 1500
globalminer claymore-zcash
Have fun!
Thank you as possible to explain to us
ethos Ge YouTube. Detail
When a change in local.conf file and do you restart. We find the file has not changed
You must save the file first. Press CTR+O and then hit ENTER, this will save/overwrite the modifications. The CTRL+X to exit and then you can restart.
Thank you
POST UPDATED AGAIN! Check how you can get 500H/s.
