If you are assembling a mining GPU rig based on a 6, 12 or even a 19 PCI-e slot motherboard, you might be interested in this new product that has been released to the market and is already on sale today.

Wonoovi, a not-so-well-known Chinese hardware manufacturer released a new USB riser that features three power connectors:

  • SATA power
  • 4-pin Molex
  • 6-pin Molex

The riser allows you to have more flexibility when connecting your GPUs – sometimes you might not have enough power connectors of certain type and this USB riser allows you to use alternatives.

Now, it might be a good idea to avoid using the SATA power cable when possible since SATA power cables have the lowest power rating among the three. That being said, you can mix and combine two different power connectors to avoid overcharging one single cable.

It is also a good idea to keep in mind that the cables that go to the power supply have their own power rating too. Therefore, unless you are using GPUs with low power draw, I’d suggest you to avoid connecting more than two PCI-e extenders per cable.

The modular connectors between the PSU and the cables that go to the risers can sometimes be the weak point too, so keep an eye on those. Usually, there is no way to know the maximum amount of current those can withstand. However, if your rig loses a chunk of its hashrate, modular connectors are usually the first thing to check.

Where to buy!

Before to continue further, please share this 🙂 thanks!

In conclusion, Wonoovi’s USB Risers VER 008 can be a great addition to your mining rig as long as you use them wisely and keep the limitations of the other elements of the chain in mind.
