Here comes another tutorial, this time i will show you how to modify the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 8GB OC’s BIOS and Flash it with ATIflash to get a better mining hashrate! My previous tutorial was about the 4GB version and it can be found at this link!
Once again i spent days to find what would bring this card to the top and hopefully one of this BIOS will give you a better mining hashrate!
If flashing BIOS goes wrong like power down, pc shutdown, blue/black/white screen.. no worries, in this tutorial you will find how to recover the GPU
To remove all doubts about the GPU model, the ROM is for this version only

That’s it 🙂 Play with the clocks, lower the mV and get the best hashrate and consumption of your card. And remember if something goes wrong while or after flashing the card, no worries, in this tutorial you will find how to recover a “bricked” GPU. https://1stminingrig.com/how-to-fix-re-flash-bios-of-bricked-gpu-on-rx-470-480-series/
Happy mining!
Thanksssss ! You’re the one !
😉
Can you please describe the difference between the V1 and V2 BIOS timings and which would you recommend we use?
V1 may work good with Hynix memory, however if you have Samsung you can give it a try, maybe you are lucky and got cards with good chips 🙂 Try V1 if you have a BIOS switch, like i said for Samsung memory it can be a bit too much but worth trying..
can you please show us the best clock to get best hashrate? it seems lower than 4GB. i got samsung memory.
Hi, you can try 1150/2150 1625 to 1750 and 2000 timings!
i did timings 1625 to 1750 and 2000 but max 1150/2100, when i tried 2150 always come back to 2100. One more thing, every time i do 2100, the speed is lower. I can do stable rate 2050 at 28.2 mh/s…compare to my 4gb, its 28.9 mh/s. So 4gb speed is better than 8gb??
Have you also tried like 2080,2120, 2140 ? If the card freeze try to increase powerlimit to 5%, 10% or 15%
it wont let me over 2100. Always came back to 2100 everytime i type 2120. Where to increase powerlimit?
Same card and same issues here. About the 2100 memory limit I guess that it could be changed in the polaris editor in the powerplay field, but I haven’t tried it yet. However setting in trixx the memory clock from 2000 to 2100 I can’t notice any hash rate improvement.
someone said, change the powerplay mem freq field to 2150 and use timing strap 1750 to 2000. I havent try it yet too.
yes, that should work 100% , just did it few days a go! if the chips are good you can go up to 2200!
do you use sapphire trixx or msi afterburner?
should i update the driver? it seem yours 16.9.1
yes, use this: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous/detail?os=Windows+10+-+64&rev=16.9.1
Please help me mod shapphire 470 nitro+ 8G samsung Here is my rom for the = https://mega.nz/#!tSoj1YyK!i3dA8trUdww28S1zLgBqVStIUbi1lJ9vRiFNGiFEckQ
Have you used ATIflash to backup the bios ?
yes ! ATIflash
does your card have bios switch ?
Thanks for the great tutorial. Its working great for Samsung one. But I have two other rx480 8gb cards which are Elpida and Micron. How can I modify the bios for these (timings..)? Also what is the optimum clock and mV for 8gb? (in your previous tut 4gb one is -100 and 2050)
it can be -100 to -150 2050/2100/2150.. its all bout the memory chips, also try increasing the power limit to 10%/15%
Sr. but my miner when run with 1100/2100 the computer will be crash. I must restart my PC with Power. How can I fix this proplem. I virtual memory I can set 16000/16000 ? I’m newbie, hope you can help me!
Try higher gpu clock like 1125/2100 and increase power limit to 15% or 1100/2080, 1125/2080 also with powere limit increased!
i dont find this tutorial easy to follow there is too much confusion of previous video and some of the agg who cares i guess i need to figure it out anyways
Ey, many thanks for your post.
I’ve actually 5 ASUS DUAL RX480, does this tutorial work for me too??
Regards!
Hey Joel, this tutorial is for sapphire models only.. but you can try to apply the same bios timings modifications
V2: copy timings from 1625 to 1750 and 2000
Try these, if are too tight then copy 1750 to 2000 and set gpu clock 1150 and memory clock 2150
What memory does your cards have?
Let me know!
Well, I will try some that i found for my card.
I have actually 3 with samsung, waiting for 2 more to arrive.
edit: Actually core clock 1150 and memory clock 2205 but stock BIOS. The worst refrigerated took 70-80ºC and the best, 55-60 but still stuck in less than 80 MH/s
have you modified the bios ?
No. I tried with some that I found in the ethereum forum but wasn’t good.
Do u know why Claymore stops mining some times? or stop using 1 or 2 GPU? I mean, sometimes it stops mining and has to restart or they put GPU0: 0 MH/s, etc.
Maybe the OC is too high, bad memory chips or risers.. try lower memory clock! also give it a test with -asm 0!
Ciprian, as it’s not stable, could you check my BIOS to look for performance? 🙁
We can have a teamviewer session 🙂
tell me when :>
ok 🙂
What do yo mean with copy timings?
Hi Cipran.
I have 2 questions for RX480 8GB
1) I am able to overclock with commands and editing the Local config.
but can I use BIOS MOD file in Ethos?
2) I am using ethos and at 1150/2250 I am getting 27 Mh/s where as it should give aaround 29 Mh/s.
So is there any diff in setting the values manually and Using a Mod file? does that matter?
I am trying to achieve 30Mh/s with RX480 what people usually get.
Hi @kindergart:disqus, you can mod flash the v4.rom and then use the cards in ethos, those should automatically have 1150/2150 and the usual hashrate is 29.8 / 29.9
Hey oh just seen this. You can disregard my comment in 4g tutorial. I have 6x nitro+oc 8 gb 470. What is the best setup to use for 29 hash and low power draw ? Thank you
Hi, copy timings from 1625 to 1750 and 2000 or from 1750 to 2000 and try clocks like 1150/2100 1150/2150
Hi Ciprian happy Easter. what do you found in the Easer egg?? Maybe one of these:
http://sapphirenitro.sapphiretech.com/en/580-LE.html
🙂 take a look…. new from Sapphire….
Ypes, i am digging into this right now, i will post a review soon.. but don’t get too excited about the new series 🙂
Sapp.N+ 470 8GB (A1706 Samsung)
Firmware v1 (manual mod.) / GPU 1150 / MEM2000 / -96mV -> 76W (47°C) and 28.5Mh/s (but sometime it show “incorrect share”)
With MEM>2030/2050 warning (incorrect share) and freeze/blue screen
Is it good or I neet to try the “v2” firmware, change other settings as GPU Voltage (the question is about some “incorrect share” report during job)
Thanks!
I am doing a new tutorial for this, i had 30 mh/s with some cards but the best is 29.5+. will post it soon!
Tnx @ciprianpt:disqus I’m waiting your post and I always watch your blog/comments/etc. during the day.
You are the Number 1 (or better.. 1st..) 🙂
thank you 😉
Hey, I got the 470 8G with Samsung memory. I tried the following 2 gpu clocks: 1150/2150 and 1150/2100, but both those clock rates decrease my mining speed to ~22MH/s. now my settings are default (1206/2100) and its around 25MH/s per card. Is there anyway to increase the mining speed, should I just try some random values? Thanks in advance for answering and thanks a lot for making this tutorial!!
Is the bios modified?
Hey Ciprian, thank you for replying. I did follow the whole tutorial en did modify my bios. I did choose for “V2: copy timings from 1625 to 1750 and 2000”.
Can you try with 1750 to 2000 only ?
I havent tried the V1 and V3 yet tho, but I will try to copy only the 1750 to 2000 and let you know. Also I get around 700Watt from the wall. Is this a lot? I got 4 cards and the rest of the system is around 100 Watt
Hi, 700w ethereum only ?
Yes 700w Ethereum only. I also tried to copy just the 1750 to 2000 and this also didnt improve the speed. Also by copying the 1500 to 1625, 1750 and 2000, i didnt get any improvements. I also tried gpu clocks like 1150/2150 and 1150/2100 and the max i got was 25.5MH/s.
that’s odd… hmm
that’s strange..
Followed the tutorial, though, the GPU isn’t working on Windows now, I can do what ever I want, but Claymore doesn’t detect any GPU.
EDIT : Seems like I’m using the latest driver, 17.x.x, it might be the problem.
if you have samsung memory check here https://1stminingrig.com/best-bios-rom-for-sapphire-nitro-rx-470-8gb-oc-samsung-memory-29-30-mhs/
Hi,
thanks for the tutorial.
Before starting a miningrig build, I’m testing with 1 RX470 8GB (Nitro+, Samsung memory) (OS: Win10 – AMD Catalyst Driver : 16.10.1)
I’ve done the manual V2 Bios mod, but it does not seem to improve a lot:
Using afterburner, settings are : 1150/2025 (core/mem), I get around 27Mhz (up from 25Mhz stock BIOS). After a few hours, it starts to go down… usually to 24Mhz
Any settings above 1150/2050 seems to be unstable (freezes, crashes, ….)
Any ideas or advise?
Thanks
Hi @litebit:disqus , here is what you need https://1stminingrig.com/best-bios-rom-for-sapphire-nitro-rx-470-8gb-oc-samsung-memory-29-30-mhs/
Just a little help for all those, who have problems starting their mining Software after installing and flashing bios and stuff.
After hours of pain 😀 i figured out, that my **** PC already had kept a newer sw version of the GPU driver somewhere and whatever I tried to install, he kept version 21.x.x.x
So I used a programm called DDU (v17.0.6.5) – direct driver uninstaller.
( This advice is added in the newer version of the tutorial as well )
It washes of all the older versions that will be hidden in the jungle of windows.
It does also deactivate automatic GPU driver updating, so that Your GPU won’t f*** You off some day updating itself to a newer version that won’t work with the GPU Bios settings.
After that – choose wisely – because the link on top of the description will link You automatically to the Windows 10 version! Below that download section is a small “release notes” button – there are the other 32 and 64 bit versions for Windows 7 and 8 and 10.
After going through the steps, the mining should work.
Where from did you measure the GPU power consumption?
Where is that shown? My whole system without screen is manually measured on 190 watt.
Hello,
is it possible to flash rx 470 NITRO Bios (samsung)?
Another great tutorial! Thanks
I ‘m looking forward to apply it.
Can I use the latest drivers (16.11.5) that already I installed and my rig(6 x SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 470 8GB, Samsung) is working since last month?
Can I use this Bios for a RX 470 Nitro (None +) 8 GB OC?
Nope.. memory type is different..
I have the Sapphire Radeon RX 470 MINING Edition 8192MB GDDR5 Samsung PCI-Express Graphics Card
GX-380-SP I tried the 1750-2000 strap only ..I’m wondering if anyone else has this card…I managed to get it to 28.3Mh/s but it was using alot of power so at the moment I’m only getting around 26mh/s
Hi! Yes I have this card, but mine is Hynix. I’m glad to hear another person has these mining edition cards. I bought quite a few of these Sapphire RX 470 mining edition 8GB (Hynix) Cards and I’m having trouble with them. I think it’s because I’m not used to AMD yet, been mining with NVIDIA only so far. I tried the V1 as mentioned in this article and not having the best of luck. I’m going to keep trying as I’m guessing I’m just doing something wrong.
replied to your email 🙂
I also have the Sapphire RX470 8G Hynix cards. Did you manage to resolve the hashrate issue you faced earlier?
have you also tested in benchmark mode ?
I ended up sending all the cards back to the supplier. Because they are mining specific cards they come with no Display out put. I tried to set everything up in bios for dual mode display. Because when I have a display connected to the motherboard there appears to be some sort of conflict between the onboard GPU and the RX 470 but since AMD decided not to install inbuilt dummy plugs into the GPU I cant get past the conflict. I know Nvidia must have installed dummy plugs on their mining cards because you dont get this issue. Yes I could have just installed a normal GPU to get past this conflict but that defeats the purpose of buying mining specific cards. And since these are mining cards I would have hoped AMD would have already altered the bios to suit mining.
Oh.. i see :/ i was able to run them..
english 😀
Hey guys,
got a cheap sapphire rx 470 8gb nitro+ for my rig. System is win 7 64bit with ‘robinhood’ amd driver. With bios mod i got 27,5mh/s for eth (without oc) using claymore 10.2.
When i’m dualmining (sia coin) the eth hashrate drops to 20mh/s (sia is at ~630). This didn’t happen for my different sapphire rx 480 8gb nitro +.
Anyone with the same problems? Any ideas to improve the hashrate?
Best!
You should use latest drivers with compute enabled or official mining drivers, as for your dual mining try lowering -dcri
