Sapphire RX 470 Nitro+ OC 4GB Bios Flash / Mod Tutorial (Hynix, Elpida, Samsung, Micron)

Ledger Wallet protects your bitcoins

A couple of days a go i sold my 6x 370s and bought 3x Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 4GB OC instead and was the best decision because i got higher hashing speed with lower watt, from 750w to 400w.

I guess now most of new and old miners know that the RX 470s 4GB are the most efficient cards to mine with, at least for Ethereum, ZCash, Monero, PascalCoin etc..

In this tutorial i am going to show you how to modify and flash BIOS to your RX 470s, this will increase the GPU hashrate substantially. My RX 470s went from 22.xx Mh/s at stock settings to 24.xx with modded bios and 29.xx with overclock and undervolt. So i got a much higher hashrate and at the same time low watt consumption with better hashing speed, around 70w to 80w per card.

The thing is that not all cards are the same, for example there are 4 different types of memory #1 Hynix (31.xx Mh/s), #1 Elpida (31.xx Mh/s), #2 Samsung (28.xx Mh/s), #3 Micron (22-24.xx Mh/s), read more about the memory types and how to spot them here. I wasn’t that lucky to get a Hynix or Elpida but i got a Samsung instead, which is better than Micron :), after few days of struggling and testing i was able to get a nice and decent hashing speed of 29.xx Mh/s on Ethereum, most of miners are reporting 28.xx Mh/s maximum hashrate but for some reason i was able to push the cards a bit more.

Right now i am going to share with you my BIOS mod for Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 4GB OC, specially with Samsung memory but i will include in the tutorial how to mod and flash the cards with Hynix, Elpida, Micron also two Reference models. Also ill show you what driver version, software and tools are needed to flash and modify bios.

To make the things even clear this is the exact card i am using in this tutorial:

Let’s get started!

Before to continue further, please share this 🙂 thanks!

1 Download and install/extract the following

Sapphire RX 470 Nitro+ OC 4Gb Modded Bios for Samsung Memory
2

Save original Default BIOS

  • Shut down your rig
  • Remove all the GPUs and leave only one plugged, my recommendation is to flash the cards one by one
  • Start the rig and Extract ATIFlash 2.74 to C: in a folder like “atiflash
  • Run ATIWinflash.exe as administrator, click on “Save” button to save the default BIOS (make sure the RX 470 card is selected), give it a name like Sapphire470defaultBIOS.rom
  • Click “ok” and “continue
  • Once the BIOS is saved close ATIFlash
3

Silent BIOS Switch

  • Shutdown your rig again
  • Switch BIOS to silent mode (towards the HDMI cable side)
  • Start the rig
4

Save original Silent BIOS

  • Open ATIWinflash.exe as administrator
  • Save the BIOS again, this time give it a name like Sapphire470silentBIOS.rom
5

Modifying / Modding the BIOS

Sapphire RX 470 Nitro+ OC 4GB Samsung Memory Bios Mod & Flash
  • Start GPU-Z to find out what type of memory does your GPU have, make sure you use the correct ROM to flash the card
  • Start Polaris Bios Editor
  • Open Sapphire470silentBIOS.rom
  • On TIMING (MHz) area copy 1750 timings to 1900 and 2000, or you can try to copy from 1625 to 1750, 1900 and 2000
  • Save the modded BIOS like Sapphire47modded.rom
  • Close Polaris Bios Editor

Download 1625 timings https://mega.nz/#!E84W3YDb!rPxXD-m__3ISunSU6WvgiXw6xNhYgy3hZ1Oj40YCg6s

Flash the BIOS with ATIFlash 2.74

  • Start ATIFlash 2.74
  • Load the image Sapphire470modded.rom
  • Click on “Program” button
  • Wait about 30-60 seconds till you get the message “Your VBIOS was programmed successfully“, click OK
  • Restart the rig and test

Pretty much this is it, repeat the same steps with each GPU.

Here is the same GPU before and after bios mod

6 Overclock and Undervolt for low watt usage

  • Start Sapphire Trixx
  • GPU Clock: 1150
  • Memory Clock: 2050 (you can start from 2000 and increase, i can go up to 2050, 2070. The 2100 is not that stable)
  • mV: -100
  • Apply modifications

    Thanks for posting this! Great guide. Any reason you used the AMD 16.9.1 drivers instead of the 17.2.1 drivers that were available when you made this guide? In fact I just checked and it looks like a few days ago the 17.3.1 drivers were made available for download. Is there something wrong with the v17 drivers or something preferable to the v16 one?

    • Hi, 16.9.1 and 16.9.2 drivers had the best results, good hashrate, good stability.

  • abejorro

    Thanks for the tutorial, but I have a doubt, the values vary in case the card is a nitro without the +.

    Download 1625 timings https://mega.nz/#!E84W3YDb!rPxXD-m__3ISunSU6WvgiXw6xNhYgy3hZ1Oj40YCg6s
    is this the bios already modified??
    thanks for helping

    • Yes, the ROM is already modified with 1625 TIMINGS. Shut down your PC, switch the jumper to the other side, turn it on and flash the ROM.

      • flavio

        thanks.. nice job man. i’m getting 25.640 MH/s DaggerHashimoto on nicehash. Even with 16.11.5 drivers. I’ll try to downgrade them. Amazing

    • But ill recommend to use the 1750 timings .. this is what i use.. try 1625 an see if it works, if not reflash with 1750

  • Ed Stewart

    Starting with 16.12.2 AMD re-enabled BIOS signature checking and I installed the latest release 17.3.1 not realizing that so my modded BIOS’s no longer work. Do you know of a way to bypass the signature check and still use their latest Radeon software release?

  • Arthur

    Hello and congratulations for your tutorial !!

    I’m using ethos 1.2.0 and samsung version

    i’ve flashed the 1750 timing, and put 1150 on core and 2070 on mem with ethos

    but i’ve only 26,3 Mhs…

    Why ?
    The undervolt is for the performance ?

    Thx

    • Hey Arthur, try to set memory clock only to 2100, default gpu clock. let me know the results. thanks!

      • Arthur

        Hi, thx for your answer.
        Now, i use Windows and caylmore, 1300 for the core and 2100 for the mem, and 29,6 mhs !!

        Thx a lot !

        • awesome 😀 and dual ?

          • Arthur

            what is the best second mining ?

          • decred or pascal i guess

  • Konomi Tachibana

    Hi, can you look at this bios? It don’t have the timing 1125, 1900 and some values are different to the nitro.

    Thanks

  • i just marked the comments and not spam.. let me know if noiw is working

  • Blockchain FR

    Hi ! Do you think this work with Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Nitro+ OC 8 Go ?

    • Hi,

      No, this rom wont work with 8GB, i am doing a tutorial for that right now.. stay close 🙂

  • Daniel Rubio

    Hello i use 4x saphire 4gb nitro + oc with hynix… more than eth 27.2mhs and 400 mhs decred dosent run stabel…with 1100 gpu clock 1900 memory clock …0.9150 voltage for gpu and memory…. any one you have a tip?

    • Hi @disqus_NHxtfuInmL:disqus, have you modified the BIOS?

      • Daniel Rubio

        Yes have your moded bios….
        I can run it wit 28 mhs bei 1150 gpu 1950 memory 0.960 v….so watt is to havy

        • have you tried 1150/2100 ? if that works, then try 1130/2100, let me know..

    What you mean with straps…..sorry my englisch is not the best. You mean the Timmings ? It is complet you bios for hynix

  • Jules Flying

    Hello Ciprian,
    Thank you very much for this overclocking guide! As soon as I read this guide I went to buy a Nitro+ 4GB this week, and CPU-Z confirmed the GPU to have HYNIX memory.
    I followed every part of this guide:
    * copied 1500 memory timings to the remainder.
    * 1150 MHz gpu clock, 2080 MHz mem clock.
    * undervolted to -96mV (MSI Afterburner would not let me go to -100mV)

    I now run Claymores Miner v8.1 and my Nitro+ is doing 29.2 Mhz for Eth mining exclusively.

    The issue is though, how can I actually push my HYNIX memory GPU to perform at 31 Mhz?

    Thanks in advance for any further advice!

    • Hi @julesflying:disqus, try reseting the -mV then increase memory clock to 2100, if stable you can go higher 2120 maybe 2150! Let me know how that worked!

      • Jules Flying

        Hello Ciprian, thanks for the tip I will definitely give these new settings a try and get back to you on the results.

        BTW I also have 2 other MSI rx470 8GB cards, but both have the dodgy “Micron” memory chips. Nevertheless I was able to mod them and they are hashing in Claymore ETH miner @27 MHz.

        • Looks like you are lucky, most people reported that they were unable to mod the bios no matter what.. the card was very unstable.. 🙂

          • Jules Flying

            Hi Ciprian, yea the MSI rx470 8GB ram is definitely Micron. I attached my GPU-Z screenshot below, and it says its DDR5 Micron. Before I read your article about “How to spot memory types” I was clueless about memory quality 🙂

            I am also definitely getting at least 27 Mhz on my Micron ram from Claymore miner mining ETH.

          • Can you send me the ROM to take a look please? 🙂

          • Jules Flying

            Hello Ciprian, sure thing I can send you my ROM. Is there a way to do submit upload files through this Disqus chat module? Its my first time using. Otherwise let me know a quick way I can send it to you!

          • you can send it over here: http://1stminingrig.com/contact/ , upload the rom to mega.nz

          • Jules Flying

            * Here is my rom for the MSI RX470 8GB (Micron) =
            https://mega.nz/#!ZXQWGQrD

            Note that I just forced the timing from 1500 to all the above timings 🙂

            I’m currently getting 27.1 Mhz from this Micron memory GPU, power draw 67Watts.

            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            * Also, here is my rom for the Sapphire Nitro+ RX470 4GB (Hynix) =
          • flavio
            i can’t download because it ask a password on mega.
            i own 3 sapphire oc+ 470 4 gb hynix. no one run stable with gpu @ 1150 voltage -100 mv and memory clock 2080. i got other 2 elpida and 2 samsung that running great.
          • have you tried with less -mV like 75, 50 ?
          • flavio
            i tried mV -50 and -75 and 0.
            no one hynix card running stable at 1150 gpu and 2080 ram clock.
            After Many tries i realize that the downvoltage kills the system. i’m still looking for best setting.
          • flavio
            i also realized the firmware i got with memory time shift is different from the one i downloaded here. i copied the timing value in 1550 to 1625 1750 and 2000 in the silent original hynix bios
          • try with 1625 to 1750 and 200
          • flavio
            if i open hynix rom and i open it with editor seems much different from what i obtain shifting ram times. just to know if this is correct.
            ps hynix card seems to be stable only at 1160 gpu -60mV and 2060 mhz ram.
          • Jules Flying
            Hi Flavio, apologies I have now updated my comment post with the proper MEGA.nz links to include the recovery keys!
      • Jules Flying
        Ok I just concluded my round of new overclocking tests for my Nitro+ 4GB Hynix memory.
        I have included some screenshots below of what parameters I am currently using now that is most STABLE and POWER efficient for me.
        But the highest stable settings I could reach on my Nitro+ 4GB Hynix with MSI Afterburner was:
        Core voltage = +0 mV
        Core clock = 1150 MHz
        Memory Clock = 2120 MHz
        GPU Power draw = 99 W
        Claymore Hashrate = 29.5 MHz
        https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/047581d29d1b740ec954cf1a0c62edfefc22a739f9a787def221c0e568c19423.jpg
        Now, I am just using:
        Core voltage = -96 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c92d390cb3cd5b76b52c4763dd77cd97129bd8a07873c70e5617fd5a4bf1f371.jpg mV
        Core clock = 1150 MHz
        Memory Clock = 2080 MHz
        GPU Power draw = 82 W
        Claymore Hashrate = 29.2 MHz
        • Looks good 🙂 you can also try to lower gpu clock to 1130, less power usage .. you cannot go higher than 2080 ?
          • Jules Flying
            Ok good tip! I shall lower core gpu clock to 1130Mhz. I did not realize there was a correlation with gpu clock to power consumption. I only had very good power savings with undervolting.
            Yes, I was able to get stable hashing at maximum 2120Mhz with my Nitro+, but I had to set my voltage back to +0 mV (ie. no change from factory default). This caused my Nitro+ card to draw ~99 Watts.
            But instead I can now stably hash eth with Claymores miner at 29.2 MHz with undervolting (-66mV), GPU clock = 2080MHz, which draws 83 Watts at 100% mining utilization.
            My Nitro fans are spinning at ~30% very very silent, and GPU temperature is at 72 degrees celcius.
            I found that if I undervolt (-96mV), I draw 79 Watts but the Nitro+ GPU fan loses its automatic settings after a few hours into mining, and starts getting very noisy spinning at higher RPM!! I cannot fix the fan automatic speed until I reboot the computer again.
          • Jules Flying
            Sorry I forgot to mention that when I pushed my Nitro+ Hynix card to memory clock = 2120 MHz , I was only getting 29.5 MHz hashrate from Claymores.
            But at 2080 MHz mem clock speed, I am getting 29.2 MHz,
    • Arthur
      hi @julesflying:disqus Can you share your bios with me ?
      I’ve the same cards !
      thx
      • Jules Flying
        Hello Arthur 🙂 Sure thing I can forward a copy of the modded Bios rom file for my Sapphire Nitro+ with the Hynix 4GB memory.
        Please just provide me with your email I can attach it to you. Or if there in an alternative way to upload it to you somehow just let me know.
  • flavio
    hello Everyone actually i’m running 2 samsung, 1 elpida and two hynix 470nitro + 4gb.
    i’m gettin around 29 mhseth mining and seems to be stable the samsung and elpida one.
    different case with hynyx one.
    i’ve tried to flash both the rom i’ve found here and even the one create by me following Ciprian’s guide.
    in every case the two hynix card crash and kill the system and i’ve to force reboot.
    i’ve even tried to connect it directly to pcie 16x
    possible 2 hynix card fu..ed up?? pls help
    • Hey @disqus_vdrsmNtxwD:disqus, have you tested the card alone with default bios ?
      • flavio
        both hynix card are stable till 2050 dram clock vith bios modification. otherwise they crash
      • flavio
        With stock firm and no trixx tweak?
      • flavio
        yes i tried the cpu connect by 16x riser to the main pci-e.
        both card results unstable using 1500 timing.
        they are pretty stable with 1625 timing. but i get just 25 mhs instead of 29 that all others gpu runs at.
        must i give the two hynix ram gpu back??
        • Driver version ?
          • flavio
            16.9.2 running on a MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon 8gb ram and celeron cpu running on a win 10×64 with registry tweak i’ve found here . also power consumption is 930 w with 6 gpu, and mining eth with dual mining disabled is this ok?. i was think about defective card but i got same results oth both hynix cards (maybe same lot?) i have few day to keep them or return. Thanks for helping Ciprian.
          • Hey @disqus_vdrsmNtxwD:disqus, i was getting around 950w and 970w with 470/470 on dual (samsung memories), what is the -mV ?
          • flavio
            actually i’m -100mv
          • Ogün
            Hi z170a motherboard with how many graphic card runing? 6gpu runing?
          • Yes, it can run 6 GPUs, actually 7 🙂
    • Jimmy Roxburgh
      flavio its possible that your just not lucky and can’t reach 2050
      That said, I had heaps of luck with my nitro+ 4gb, running high speed and low voltages, until i moved it to a different motherboard! Now it won’t do 2050 even at normal voltage!
  • Paulo
    Link editor elpida?
    • Umm, i giess to edit Elpida you will need to use Hex Editor or Hawaii Bios Editor…
  • Jimmy Roxburgh
    Awesome. Saph Nitro+ 470 4GB Hynix. Bargain.
    Pulling 28.6 @ 65.3w (gpuz)
    Copied the 1500 strap. Finished off the fine tuning with wattool.
    1126/818,2050/850 (probably could drop that 850 lower)
    Regarding the 818 – Confirm the VOUT! If vout isn’t going down to 0.838v, then the “818” isn’t taking effect. You need to add 818 to the other GPU clocks (i.e P5).
    • @jimmyroxburgh:disqus that’s a good power consumption 🙂
      • Jimmy Roxburgh
        I noticed that setting the mv on the gpu doesnt always do anything.
        i.e it was on 818, and I upped it, but VOUT didn’t go up until I got to 851. 850 had the same vout as 818, so presumably the BIOS was actually not accepting 818
      • Jimmy Roxburgh
        Currently getting 29.6 @ 68w, not after tweaking the card though – but after underclocking and under volting the Core 2 Quad
        Going to run some experiments on this
        • @jimmyroxburgh:disqus, post some screenshots with your settings/bios , thank you! 🙂
          • Jimmy Roxburgh
            Struggling to recreate the 29.6 after I went looking for the reason. Dang
            Also, tried the GPU in a 2yrs later mobo – I can’t get more than 27 out of it!
  • Ogün
    hi shappire 470rx elpida ram with 1950+ not runing but new version elpida other elpida ram’s runing but new get elpida rams not runing
  • Stefan Yalamov
    Hello . Very good tutorial …but my card don’t wont to flash…
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/34f7bf8fc81608c3dcfb12c92200868591197307a3c76bda8cf7a0dbd40c31b9.png
    What is going on ??? The timings looks different ! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fe3fd6ade5fa594ad58b00cf6e62f241c728f455941b5c51784adcba6e70ac1b.jpg
    In my curent condition (not flashed) I’m mining with 25Mh-26Mh/s …
    • Do you get any error while flashing? You tried the Elpida one only right ?
      • Stefan Yalamov
        Yes it send me an error – missmach…
        And yes I have downloaded the Elpida rom…
        The srtange thing is that one of the cards (they are 2 470 nitros without + , and one 280x dual-x with hynix ) must be in the pci16x slot not on risers to work at full hashrate … I just download the same 16.1 driver as you recomend… the old one was 15.12
        At one time I copyed you timings in my file using Polaris – line by line from up to down , and …it said succsess !,…but after restart the monitor stayed black but on power!
        • Hmm.. maybe because of bad chips? ermm have you tried just my copying timings ?
          • Stefan Yalamov
            Yes I do , but nothing happend – I mean black screen after that… , anyway I changed the driver to 16.11 and the card stabilized at 26+Mh , so far so good ! I am happy with this result
    • Anton Buber
      Hi All ,
      Anyone have original bios for 113-1E3471U.S6E rx470 sapphire nitro Samsung. I not saved my original bios. Now I have problems with the card.
      Thanks.
  • Russel Stallone
    Can i use this bios mod if my version is not nitro + but just nitro
    • I think you should modify your own bios to make sure that everything runs correctly..
  • Mujuu
    Nice tutorial @ciprianpt:disqus
    Modded my Saph Nitro+ 470 4GB Elpida.
    Running @1150/2070 mV -100 ~80W
    29mh on ETH.
    Is it too much push? Should i decrease to 2050?
    • Hi @mujuu:disqus, thanks ! you can also try 1150/2100 or 1130/2100
  • Johnmcg
    Hello. Could anyone help me please ? I got 6x 470 nitro+oc 8gb. Could anyone share settings or bios for this card please ? I can’t seem to find any information. And I have heard reports the nitro 470 are dieing because the thermal tape on the vrms are melting causing an oily residue which ends in a short. Is this true ? Thanks guys
    • BraveLabrador
      Of course not. Thermal pads can handle up to 200C. ~95C is no problem for them.
  • posasky
    I need Sapphire RX470 Nitro(not +) 4GB Hynix Moded bios.
    I could not mod bios saved from GPU with Polaris, it doesn’t show timing values, Win10 may not allow to do. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d69818ef3a1b600d7783e137c57ed591fccf4607e9cf07853ad66d7afa1370de.jpg
    Hi @ciprianpt:disqus thanks for this guide, I have a new Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Nitro OC 4GB (not +) Elpida Memory (A1712), so i backup the Bios on ATIwinFlash (and GPUZ too) and when open on Polaris Bios Editor (From Git Repositories) the values on Timing MHz its diferents of all that show here. this is a backup of the Bios ROM. https://mega.nz/#!1NNXXIxT!h3SE9rzZOLL2aDnYulp3m1AbBWVa2YW9RpAO5KI-J9M
    Hi, Then biosmodded my GPU (RX 470/480) is good idea dual mining with it? also with this modd (above of post) how much is dual hashrate?
  • Richard Collins
    3 out of 5 of my rx 470 4gb got so hot (81 C) that the thermal pads appeared to sweat what appeared like mineral oil. 11256-10-20G Sapphire wind tunnel.
  • Krillin
    Hello, I have try to mod bios.
    I have switch to silent mod, then upload wrong bios, restart rig and now my sapphire rx470 hynix 4gb dont work. When back switch to normal mod everything works fine. How to get back bios on silnet mod to default? I have saved default bios. Thanks
    • Start the windows with normal switch bios, then when windows booted and everything started switch bios to bad one, then open atiflash and program the original bios or modified one. it will work..
      • Branko
        Thanks, it works.
  • Holger
    Hi @ciprianpt:disqus
    I have two Sapphire Nitro + OC 4G, both with Hynix memory (A1630 and A1715)
    A1630 -> 1100 – 2000 – -25mv – 92W @ 28.0MHs
    A1715 -> 1100 – 1950 – -00mv – 95W @ 24.3MHs
    The graphics card with the A1715 memory works a lot badly.
    At the A1630-Card the PolarisBiosEditor worked perfectly, the A1715 I can not see the timing. I flashed the A1630 BIOS on the A1715 graphics card. It works, the graphics card is also 2MHS faster, but whether I enter 1750, 1850 or 1950 (Mem Speed), the A1715 card always remains at 24.3 MHs. (More than 1950MHz does not work)
    Do you have any idea?
    Original A1715 BIOS: https://mega.nz/#!AqQFTJgD!YSDsRhlgwX75FlecRC1Tr9snO_w5moVTl-Cahr8xZus
    • Hi @disqus_AWA06S6MDy:disqus, try this one and let me know the results:
      https://mega.nz/#!t8QGTBZB!yg0yBPT6yBZ0jo85oXK2-t3xxJdN7brv0onu6dD555o i copied 2:1625 to 2:1750 and 2:2000 , let me know the results
      • Holger
        With the new BIOS i unfortunately only 21MHs. With a bit of OC (1100/2050) i get 23MHs. More is not possible 🙁
        EDIT: I go up to 1260/2100 / -100mV @ 95W = 23.78MHs
        My “old” Bios has max. 1950MHz Mem Speed. The Card runs better, but 23.7MHs are not good 🙁
        • Have you also tried to manually copy 1625 timings to 1750 and 2000 and then to flash it ?
          • Holger
            I cannot see the timings in the normal version of PolarisBioseditor. I found this “special version” of PolarisBiosEditor in the comments, i copy the timing , but the card are not faster.
          • Strange.. hmmm
          • OberinB
            Same Problem here. I just received four of those cards. Have copied the 1500 timings(1: and 2:) to 1626,1750 and 2000. this gives me around 24,5 MHs and I can lower the Watts to 85w by undervolting all the way up to -200mv and reducing the GPU clock to 1050. Increasing the memory clock does not affect the speed. If someone has an idea how to increase the hashrate please comment.
          • Try copying only 1: timings and let me know.
          • OberinB
            https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e23a16a4d318df5de2d2ee3c51f80047c663050863ed9483c4d7198eb74167ca.png
            @ciprianpt:disqus Thanks, this worked and gets me up to 29.1 MHs /s after setting the memory clock to 2070. However the power consumption is quite high (110w compared to 75W on my RX480), I have tried to undervolt using Sapphire Trixx but it becomes unstable around -100mv. Do you think I could lower the power consumption by adjusting the values for GPU frequency and/or voltage using watttool? Below is a screenshot of the GPU freq and voltage.
            P.s. what is the difference between the 1: and 2: timings?
          • Hi, yes you can go down with gpu clock to 1150, 1130, 1125 to lower up to max.. with -100 – 120 mV
  • Ivan Jordan
    can I use the overclock settings SAPPHIRE RX 470 REFERENCE 4GB HYNIX BIOS MOD & FLASH on my XFX RX470 4gb
    • Hi, no.. but you can try to replicate those bios modifications on yours.
  • Branko
    Hi, I have Saph Nitro+ 470 4GB Hynix, download from comments modded bios. After mod bios on my graphic cards (6 cards), they work on 1090/1940. And that is ok, but I measured power consumption!
    This rig uses power 1030W. Other rigs consume about 850W power.
    When do undervoltage to -72 or -90, consumption is reduced to 1003v. I think that my bios is not good. Can anyone tell me how to reduce fuel consumption.
    This is link to bios that I have use: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/b1a06a41eb0ef15e8957d7914eb8cd5c20170517131912/340b63682d1112a0b5f5ba8cbf878ed220170517131912/c52353
    Thanks
      on single (EHT) mining you had 850 watts
      and with dual mining (eth/decr) arround 1050
  • Guy Peters-Hollenberg
    Got A1630 Hynix rx470 4gb, gpu 1100 —> mem 2000, -100mv , ati flashed the card, getting 23mh/s, running biostar btc 250 flashed bios for board to latest, with mining mode on, the ati drivers 16.9.1, win 10 os, any idea why getting low hash ?
    • I would also recommend to try copying 1500 or 1625 to higher timings and test again!
      • Guy Peters-Hollenberg
        http://i64.tinypic.com/2wguc00.jpg
        btw, getting 21mh/s , I try change any settings this happens. Ive tried mining mode, non mining mode, downgraded bios for board, latest bios for board, updated gfx drivers, 16.9.1,
        dud 1500 to 1625, get image device manager error
        did 1725 to 2000, get image device manager error
        did both, get image device manager error.
        You think I just got a dud card…is it windows 10 64 bit, frustrating.
        http://i67.tinypic.com/244xto8.png
        • Rene Feiertag
          it looks like that is another driver version installed after 16.9.1 try ddu (display driver uninstaller) and delete drivers from hdd and install driver new after clean deinstall with ddu
          • Josh Meckel
            Thank you. I was running into this issue. I started with 16.12 thinking it would be similar. Then because I saw the error as the other user saw I upgraded to 17. This did not resolve it. I am now downgrading to 16.9 and I expect it to work as instructed. Thanks!
          • Josh Meckel
            No go 🙁 The card is not found if I use any drivers older than version 17 now. I have used the DDU and still no go. I am using the stock driver, not the updated silent driver.
  • Antenor Froes
  • Joe Banamas
    Thanks for all the great info. I was wondering if there is any difference between the Sapphire and MSI Radeon cards? I found some MSI 480’s that look like they are still in stock.
    • Both models are good, if you are new with this ill suggest you to go with the sapphire nitro+
  • Ben
    I have the Nitro 470 4GB OC with Hynix memory and stock Im getting around 15, modding it dropped me down to 13 and with the power tweaks I can get it back up to 16. My serial is A1719 = Hynix. Any ideas on what to try? I want to at least get into the 20-25 bracket if I can.
    • . Montee
      Ben, any chance you can send me your stock A1719 rom?
  • Alex
    So I flashed my Saph Nitro+ 470 4GB Hynix as instructed, everything seemed perfect, got 28.5 with the stated settings (more or less: had 2 sets of strands in memory timings, copied both 1500 values to their respective 1625, 1750 and 2000). Did the same with 2 other cards. Then tried running two cards together and the problems started: at first an error from windows and nicehash, after restart black screen. When I finally managed to get into windows, gpu-z wouldn’t show any clock or temperature values, same with Trixx. After flashing back to original silent bios, same problems. Reinstalled drivers many times until for some reason sensors started showing values and now everything seems back to normal.
    Any suggestions?
  • Ben Clanford
    Hi I tried the steps but unable to see the TIMING (MHz) area so cannot copy the 1500 etc…please see attached.
    If I open the roms saved here, I do see the timings but wont save to my card just in case! My card without the + does not have a BIOS switch?
    My card is a Saph Nitro 470 4GB Hynix. —without the + !
    Here is my original rom…saved with ATI flash!
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e0a0655b80efdc462b5f782fff6cafe1c120f6b7ae2a73ac642a2fe1055f92f8.jpg
    • Yes, without the + there is no bios switch, check for latest polaris bios editor you can see the right timings with that. then you can copy from 1500 or 1600 to higher.
  • Eddie
    Hello there, i have a SAPPHIRE NITRO RX 470 4GB (note that it is not plus version) so I dont have the silent bios option. What do u recomend to proceed on flashing? The memory type is Elpida and the SKU is 11256-10-20G. Thanks a lot!!
    • You will have to modify your original bios and flash it.
      • Eddie
        Thanks i did it, but im only geting 27 mh/s…. Any ideas?
        • LeBron Lim
          hi , eddie , 27mh/s so high ,can u send me ur image after u edit ?
  • Zulekha
    do I keep the bios switch on silent mode?
  • Xkillerz
    Hey I bought the most recent sapphire nitro + oc 4gb batch (11256-01-20G) and I followed your tutorial and hynix memory modded bios. At 1150 1950 I am using 103 watts with -mv 90. Is there something not working well or is this type using more wattage?
    I soon gonna let it run at 1150 / 2000. -mv 100. Or 2050 depends whats stable.
    Going 1050 crashes 1 or more cards straight away.
    This high wattage kinda forced my 6 gpu rig to only 5 gpu only 1000 watt psu. It now uses like 870 watts average. Maybe I can’t change it further. But let me ask it just for sure.
    Edit:
    Currently I notice I am using a bios close to it but not exactly your settings. So let me first see yours hylix and see if I can get my wattage lower before coming to conclusion that lowering wattage is not working for me. I will test this tomorrow. 1 strap is diffrent and the power tune tdp from 85 to 100. Not sure if that matters.
  • Anastasios Selalmazidis
    Hi,
    the only available SAPPHIRE cards in my country are:
    Sapphire Radeon RX470 4GB Nitro D5 OC (11256-10-20G) 290€
    Sapphire Radeon RX470 8GB Nitro D5 OC (11256-17) 300€
    The RX580 version costs more than 350€ and I am not wiiling to pay so much for them.
    I could not find any info on the memory chip brand. Do you think the RX470-8GB version is worth the money? What about power consumption. I want to put a GPU in an old build of mine with specs:
    MB: AsRock ITX B75 http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B75M-ITX/
    PSU: 450 WATT
    RAM 4GB
    CPU: Intel Pentrium Dual Core 1155, Not remember the exact model
    • If the cards are Nitro non plus version.. wont worth the money.. if those have nitro+ then yes.. both cards are good
      • Anastasios Selalmazidis
        Unfortunately both cards are non plus version. Thank you for the response. I think I will wait for the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 580 8GB LIMITED EDITION HYNIX MEMORY
      • Anastasios Selalmazidis
        Do you think that my build can handle the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 580 8GB LIMITED EDITION HYNIX MEMORY ???
  • Imran khan
    one problem after falshing in silent mode it i am getting 29 ms but after switch to normal mode bios it back to default hash rate.. Do i need to stay on slient mode always ?
  • Rodrigo Lobo
    Hi,
    I did EXACTLY what you did here (and like other tutorials), the only difference is that I’m using a SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO+ 4 GB (SAMSUNG), and after I reboot, when I try to start the claymore miner it says “no AMD OPENCL or Nvidia CUDA GPUs found, exit”. and it closes.
    I have no idea, I tried everything yet and got to no solution. I downloaded exactly what you mentioned here, including the AMD 16.9 driver, so please, light me up if you can of what could be the problem!
    Thanks.
    • have you uninstalled drivers with DDU ?
    • Raxell
      Hi, i got the exact problem as you, after searching for the solution i found out that the new amd driver wont allow you to use bios. All you have to do is to patch it. Follow this step:
      1. Mod your bios (DONT RESTART)
      2. Patch it
      3. Restart and done.
      You can find the patch here:
      https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0vuo3qqq9l1wxkm/AACYWqBzQRJZMwtU1NXPfT10a?dl=0
      If this help you a tip would be appriciated 🙂
  • Stefan Nonchev
    Hi guys,
    How do u overclock if there isn’t a monitor connected? I can only do it on the GPU that is connected to a monitor. If i move the cable to the next GPU it doesn’t work…
    • No need to change cable.. you can overclock all cards there… are you using trixx or msi afterburner?
      • Stefan Nonchev
        Hi Ciprian, thanks for coming back to me 🙂
        With afterburner it works however I can’t control the voltage. Tried all possible selections but stays greyed out.
        Managed to sort it out with trixx at the end.
        Now I have another question – I have a rig with 6 RX470. The power consumption although is quite high I think – 980. If I disable one GPU it goes down to 910, 70 watt per GPU is what we shall expect. Without any GPU, it is around 100 watts. So how come this difference of 980 – 100 – (6×70) = 460 watts appears? Are you using all powered risers in your rig(s)?
        • Slick Parkwood
          If they are non plus models, then you need to open your Trixx, reset all 6 cards to normal settings, and one by one, ONLY undervolt. So close your miner, in trixx reset to default, and go in and undervolt. Try -66mv for all six cards, then reload your miner, and see if your power draw doesn’t correct itself.
  • Hendra Hartawan
    Whether the above technique can be in application on graphics card RX 470 4GB Nitro OC (Non +)? thank you for your answer.
  • Stéphane Dréan
    Hi,
    I have GPU RX 470 4gb elpidia and I would like to know how many put in memclock and coreclock in MSI afterburner.
    Thank.
  • chomcv
    pls help me with this bios rx 470 micron memory 8gb , I have only 24,5 MH/s ..is possible to get 29 mh/s under unbutu?
  • Jacques
    I just followed your tutorial. Somehow I didn’t get much improvement from just the memory timings, but overclocking/undervolting got me from 24 to 28 MHs. So, thanks for that. I do have a question however : if I take my modded GPU to my linux/ethos mining rig (alongside 5 original-rom gpus), I lose the extra MHs. Now, I’m using Claymore to test the modded GPU on Win10, and ethos seems to be running genoil’s ethminer. I would have expected the modded GPU to perform better on linux/ethos, why is that not the case ? Do modded bios’es only work on Windows ?
  • Gaato
    hi men. i got a sapphire rx470 4gb with Samsung memory. i followed the steps one by one of this tutorial and i am getting 25mhs. but my problem is that i cant use the trixx or afterburner soft. the values are totally blocked in both softs. what can i do?
  • Stéphane Dréan
    16.9.1 it is the best driver actualy ?
  • Mark
    Hi, so I have a Nitro+ 4Gb on Elpida. Being Elpida, I think that means that I can’t use PBE to view and alter the settings. Thanks enormously for posting an Elpida modded rom here but could please post what settings it has? For example, is it undervolted? I am running on linux so need to undervolt through a BIOS mod. Thanks again!
  • Israel
    I have followed all the steps of this post but do not attain to change the drivers in windows and do not coincide me the timings of the memory, when you say that they change the timings of the boxes 1900 and 2000 Want to say that in the case of the 580 are 2000 and 2250?
    Thank you
  • Miguel Conde
    I want to use Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON to mining crytocurrencies, so I got 7 GPU’s but I can run just 4. With 4 gpu or less is well working with linux(simplemining). More than 4 gpus is not working. I updated the bios. When I enable the 4g decoding option on bios. the OS (both linux and windows10) does not start. (actually linux freezes, windows10 restarts itself contionously). Can you help me to solve such an issue?
    Gpu’s are rx 480 oc 4g
    cpu i3 7100
    I have followed this steps to configurate the motherboard:
    http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/11404/msi-z170-7-gpu-bios-setting-step-by-step
    Help please
    • Pierre Lebeau
      hi mate,
      your windows 10 installation should be in uefi or it should support uefi in bios not legacy……windows hardrive should be in gpt format…..other wise the above 4g setting won’t work and u will get a black screen when u try to boot in to windows 10…….Iand you will have to use the16.9.1 driver .
    • Religion is Cancer
      This could be a motherboard issue but it’s also a known AMD driver issue. Search for “AMD 6 GPU patch”. Download that, run it with administrator privileges and then reboot. It solved my problem. My Asrock Pro BTC would only recognize 5 cards until using that patch. There are also patched drivers the could do the trick as well. Search for them on YouTube.
  • Pierre Lebeau
    i have errors when i open my bios with polaris , it says that my bios have an insuficient size ( the file is 252 kb instead of 512 standard) and thus i have weird values, i tried with different versions of polaris but didnt suceeded. here find attached the screenshots. http://imgur.com/a/nSf7S
    i have hynux mem.
    thanks for your help.
    • get a newer Polaris bios editor.
      • Pierre Lebeau
        hi thanks for your reply , i used the last ver 1.4.1 and it didnt work either…
      • Pierre Lebeau
        is srb polaris editor good instead ?
    I bought an RX 470 Nitro 4 GB (non plus) for $219.00 and I’m trying to figure out what memory it has before opening it. The serial says A1725 but I’ve not seen anyone reporting that.
    Any ideas?
    • mike
      It’s Hynix A1637, A1640, A1648, A1630, A1715, A1721, A1718
      http://1stminingrig.com/spot-memory-types-rx-470-480-hynixelpidasamsungmicron/
      • Religion is Cancer
        Where do you see A1725 in there?
        • mike
          Start GPU-Z to find out what type of memory does your GPU have, make sure you use the correct ROM to flash the card.
          They have the download link above
          • Religion is Cancer
            You sir are correct. A1725 is indeed Hynix 🙂
  • Dino
    For Elpida memory I only flash the attached bios with atiflash, right?
  • Imre Csoka
    i dont understand how to follow this guide, do you need to save your bios with atiflash or with gpu-z ? where must the bios switch be? i dont understand it.
    • Always backup BIOS with atiflash, what gpu do you have?
  • Gustavo Hidalgo
    hello i need the flash bio for Asus RAdeon Rx 480 strix 8gb, samsum memory. could you help me please.
  • Religion is Cancer
    I bought four RX 470 4GB Nitro (non plus) with Hynix/Elpida memory (according to ATIWinFlash) and 2 with Samsung memory. All of the cards BIOS ROM’s are 256k in size. I’ve tried pulling them using the ATIWinFlash GUI and with GPU-Z. Each time I get a 256k ROM file. I believe these new variants are different than what you’re talk about here. Anyone have any experience modding these cards?
  • Pavel Hrabal
    What is the reason for saving OC bios (Sapphire470defaultBIOS.rom), when you are modding and flashing SILENT bios?
    • just jn case somethibg happen with silent one you have.. anyway always good to backup everything
      before modify.
  • Raxell
    Hi, i messed up the bios on oc mode. And i dont have the back up, where can i get the original oc mode vbios? My card is sapphire nitro+ rx 470 oc hynix memory
