Gigabyte P104-100 Mining Performance Review

First of all, I want to give a shootout to Gigabyte for sending me this card for testing. Thank you guys 🙂 In exchange, I took my time to test this card thoroughly to find out how it hashes and what are the clocks and software that work the best with it. Here is my detailed report as well as a general card review.

Gigabyte p104-100 Mining-Related Specs

  • Core Clock: Boost: 1733 MHz / Base: 1607MHz
  • CUDA® Cores: 1920
  • Process Technology: 16 nm
  • Memory Clock: 10010 MHz
  • Memory Size: 4 GB
  • Memory Type: GDDR5X
  • Memory Bus: 256 bit
  • Card Bus: PCI-E 1.1 x4
  • Card size: H=42 L=280 W=114 mm
  • Power Connectors: 8pin*1
  • TGP: 180W-225W

The Gigabyte P104-100 is belongs to the same GPU family as the GTX 1070, 1070 Ti and 1080 (but not 1080 Ti as explained in my review). Here is where similarities end since the P104-100 mining edition isn’t the GPU you’d use for gaming. It features optimized memory that allows it to hash amazingly well on Ethereum mining.

This optimization makes it 20% better at Ethereum mining than a GTX 1080 Ti and 30% better than a GTX 1070. If that were not enough, the low power consumption makes the P104-100 way more attractive for mining than a GTX 1080 Ti.

It features no backplane to reduce manufacturing costs. Unlike the Founders Edition, the Geforce P104-100 comes with 8+2 power phases with the purpose of decreasing the working temperature of the MOSFET and providing more stable voltage output. This feature is important for a mining GPU because it allows for a more stable overclocking.

Gigabyte P104-100 Mining Hashrate

As you can see below, the card outperforms the more expensive and power hungry GTX 1080 Ti when it comes to ETH mining. Now, when you put it to mine non-memory-intensive algos, it performs as good as a GTX 1070. Not bad, though it is obvious that it’s a crime to use this card to solo mine anything than Ethereum. It can also dual mine quite well, as you can see below.

Pros:

  • Great Ethereum hashrate
  • Low power draw
  • Unmatched Megahash/Watt ratio
  • Triple fan design
  • 8+2 power phases – more stable overclocking

Cons:

  • Availability – as it happens with mining-capable cards, good performance and power/hashrate ratio usually equals to high demand and subsequent shortages of the product

In Conclusion

Do I recommend this card? Of course yes. I am getting more of those as soon as I get the chance to. P104-100 family cards feature amazing power-hashrate ratio and as for today, those are the best cards for Ethereum mining for anyone who is planning on getting into ETH mining for real.
