As you already probably know, AMD released a new series of GPUs – the RX570 and RX580 – a couple of weeks ago. Those are upgraded versions of the existing RX470 and RX480, respectively. The RX 5xx series were really anticipated by the mining community; however, those two new models received mixed reviews.

As it always happens, there is always a group of people who expect too much from new GPUs and thus get frustrated when their expectations are not met. Until not long ago, only a small number of people were able to test and review the GPUs. Now that more people got their hands on the GPUs there is a lot more information about the mining performance of the new RX 5xx.

Let’s see what we got

Can BIOS Be Modified?

This is a topic that caused the most controversy in the community at first. As we will review in a bit, the RX 5xx series have higher power consumption than their predecessor while at the same time feature the same hashrate. This made an outrage in the community because more power consumption obviously means longer ROI.

That low hashrate and high wattage combination was due to the fact that there was no way to properly configure the BIOS of the 5xx at first.

Now that some time passed, some users found ways to tweak the BIOS in order to further optimize the GPU. They found ways to both overclock and undervolt the GPU, increasing the hashrate/wattage ratio considerably.

Notice that they use a modified version of the Polaris Bios Editor https://github.com/jaschaknack/PolarisBiosEditor/

You can use it with other memories too. It all comes down to straps to use:
Samsung & Micron = 1750 straps ; 1:xxxx timings
Others = 1500 straps ; 2:xxxx settings

Also, 1xxx stands for Samsung and 2xxx is for Micron chips.

Hashrate and Power Consumption

Now that we see how the 5xx can be both overclocked and undervolted, we can make a more precise comparison.

Let’s start with stock clocks.
The first tests of the boards showed those results:

• RX570: 22 MH/s on stock frequencies and 27 MH/s when overclocked. The power consumption is 115 W and 135 W respectively.

• RX580: 24 MH/s on stock frequencies and 29 MH/s when overclocked, with a power consumption of 136 W and 153 W, respectively.

This gives quite a grim outlook on the new cards because their RX 4xx counterparts output the exact same hashrate with an average 10 – 20% less power consumption (both on stock settings and when overclocked).

So, what’s the catch?

Firstly, and I will review it a bit later, the 5xx series excel when dual mining.
Secondly, let’s see what other users could find out after the cards were released to the public.

I will list the most interesting configurations I could find. Some apply only to a certain edition of the card (such as the RX 580 Nitro / MSI).

It is now obvious that it is a must to both overclock and underclock the RX 580 to make it work properly. Otherwise, the most you can get from the stock one is 25 MH/s (instead of 24 MH/s) having 17.4.3 ReLive drivers and using Claymore 9.3 with a power draw of about 150 W from the wall. Not impressive.

An RX 480 Nitro does 29.5 MH/s when overclocked. A RX 580 stands a chance against it only when configured properly.

Dual Mining

According to several reviews, the RX5xx series truly outperform the RX4xx when dual mining.
It looks like after all, those two sets of models have different architectures. The 5xx might be a bit more than just a downgrade of the widely-loved 4xx.

Some tests of the RX 580 gave those results:

It can also give about 30.5 MH/s + 1450 MH/s if power and voltage are left as they came from factory. However, power usage increases to about 15% too.

Windows or Linux?

According to one renowned reviewer, it is better to mine with the RX 5xx on Linux, at least for now. He states that Linux drivers work better than Windows ones.

Cooling

Cooling is probably one of the best things about the 5xx series. Both the RX570 and the RX580 are bigger and have better cooling system than their predecessors. They use more copper too. Just like the 4xx, the 5xx GPUs come with two coolers of the same size and there were no complaints about temperature issues to the date.

Both RX570 and RX580 are praised for being more silent than their older counterparts too.

Price Change Prospects

Some people of the mining community managed to get the most of their 5xx and are happy with their purchase; others – not so much. If you think that the 5xx are not for you, then you might want to buy some 4xx while there are in stock.

You see, it is still not clear for how long the 4xx series will be available for sale. Some sources claim that 4xx series are no longer manufactured and will disappear from the shelves quite soon. If that is the case, then now it might be the right time to purchase a couple.

However, other miners say that it is a good idea to wait a little until the 4xx will naturally drop in price. While their point seems valid, I am more prone to think that the 4xx won’t be getting any cheaper anytime soon. The reason is simple – the 5xx are not a lot better than the 4xx (at least according to popular opinion), therefore I don’t expect a lot of people to run after 5xx GPUs.

In Conclusion

Should you buy it? I guess the 5xx are no worse than the 4xx. Some community members proved that the 5xx are even better than their predecessors.

Since RX5xx’s have reasonably low price, it might be a good idea to get them for your rig if you are buying one. RX 5xx GPUs work stable as they are now, and one never knows what surprises further patches and fixes will bring. Who knows, maybe the new architecture will allow us to overclock them even more or save more power.

Also, the RX 5xx might be easier to sell in the future, since they are definitely better for gaming than their 4xx predecessors.

Now, if you do have a rig of 4xx already, then it definitely a good idea to stick to it. The RX5xx’s – even when properly configured – are not superior enough to the 4xx, at least in my opinion. They are good, but the 4xx proved to work wonder, and it might be a great idea to keep your 4xx rigs, at least for now.

If you’ve been following me for some time, you’ve noticed that I talk a lot about modern cryptocurrencies and how they evolve over time. The cryptocurrency market is constantly changing and sadly enough, not everyone is aware of it. In fact, many cryptocurrency developers often have no clue about the real issues and needs of the actual market.

This is why in this article I’d like to talk about Exscudo. I will talk about those issues and how Exscudo is dealing with them, as well as how this can benefit you too.

Exscudo is platform that allows both end users and financial institutions to access the cryptocurrency market easily and legally. The platform is being developed by professionals in the currency exchange and trade fields. This platform is aimed to solve some critical issues in the modern cryptocurrency market most people are silent about.

What Issues Does Exscudo Solve?

There are two main issues that have to be dealt with.

Now, Exscudo is a different story. Andrew Zimine is the CEO of the project; he worked for 18 years in a company that develops exchange systems, exchange security and ERP-systems for companies. Having such a solid expertise in this field, he was able to spot the mistakes crypto exchangers do. He also realized that he cannot change this alone, so he consolidated a team of professionals that was able to create Exscudo.

As a result, we get a brand new ecosystem – a set of products – that makes cryptocurrencies both secure and accessible to a wide spectrum of users.

Unlikely most other cryptocurrencies, the EON cannot be mined. The full amount of 240,000,000 EON will be generated in the initial launch and it will then be distributed during the crowdsale. The amount cannot be changed anytime in the future due to the consensus algorithm structure.

EON is designed to serve the Exscudo ecosystem alone, and therefore it more likely won’t be used for speculation. The sole purpose of the EON is to serve as a link between Exscudo products. The EON can be purchased using Bitcoin, but the obtained funds will serve to cover the computational costs of the Exscudo network.

Exscudo as a Fully-Functional Alternative to Traditional Banking

According to statistics, about 2,5 billion people worldwide have no access to the banking system. However, more than half of them do have access to internet.

Exscudo allows people to enjoy all the benefits banking systems give without being affiliated to a specific bank. All you have to have is an internet connection.

This is only possible thanks to the blockchain technology and it was about time to create a system that would combine blockchain with banking. It is about time to eliminate all the unneeded intermediaries from daily transactions and allow end users and big companies alike to trade freely, safely and seamlessly without any geographical restrictions.

How Legal Is Exscudo?

As we know, cryptocurrencies don’t have a legal base in most countries. This creates some legal restrictions that keep institutional investors from investing in cryptocoins; this is also the reason why retail stores don’t accept cryptocurrency payments. While cryptocurrencies are potentially a great commodity to invest in, it is not an option for most serious investors due to the inexistence of a legal base.

You see, traditional international transaction fees are so high because the money does not go directly from the buyer to the seller. Instead, it goes through many hands until it reaches the destination. This often results in fees of 10% or more.

• wait for the DAG file to complete and once done it will begin to mine

• go to https://etc.ethermine.org/ and on top right enter you wallet address, click check status
• on the dashboard you can find your hashing speed , unpaid balance , workers and some graphs
• click on Settings tab and add your details: email, how often would you like to be paid (recommend 1ETC to avoid higher transfer fees) and the IP if your rig.

My hashing speed increased with 7H/s which is something for this R7 370s There is not much difference between Claymore & Genoil miner but i personally prefer Claymore, because it has the dual mining features. You can earn even more using the DUAL Miner, but i will talk more in the next article about this, also tutorial.

The dual mining option can bring you $25-$50 more profit per month (depending what GPUs you have, also will drain a little more power) without affecting ethereum’s hashrate at all.

If you’ve been following the latest news about PascalCoin, you surely know that this once unpopular altcoin is now becoming quite popular among miners. Countless people have been looking for ways to mine it. Before to start you need to know the following details:

• To pool mine PascalCoin you will need at least Windows 7 x64 or greater
• Pool fee is 2%
• Payout commission 0.0001 Pasc
• Minimum payout is 5 Pasc (it can be changed by contacting nanopool staff
• Share difficulty is static and equal to 10 Billions

1 Create an account with Poloniex.com if you don’t have one (having an account there is not mandatory, you can also use the official PascalCoin wallet, read bellow)

• Once logged in go to “Balances” then “Deposits & Withdrawals“
  
• Type “pasc” in the search bar to quickly access Pascal Coin and click on “Deposit” link
• Then click on “Show me the Deposit Address” link to display wallet address
• Leave that page open

2 Now let’s download the miner

3 We have everything ready, let’s configure the miner we just downloaded

• Extract the files from archive
• Right click on “start.bat” and click on “Edit“
• You will see the file is already configured, all you have to add is the deposit key, payload address,worker name from Poloniex account and email address

Additional Observations
PascalCoin mining is slightly more power-demanding that Zcash or Ethereum mining. Make sure to keep that in mind when doing your calculations

2. AMD GPU PascalCoin (PASC) Solo Mining on Windows Tutorial

– We use the PascalCoinMiner latest release (v0.2) – you can find the direct download link in the description. You will also need a working wallet (we will provide you with the download link as well). All you have to do is download both files and write down the wallet IP.

1 First of all download the files, here are the links:

2 Install the wallet you just downloaded and follow this steps

• Click on “Project” and then “Private keys“
• You will have to generate a new key, so click on “Generate a new key” button
• On popup you will have to add a “Name” to your new key so go ahead and give it a name you want and as “Key Type” check the first one “secp256k1“
• Then again click on “Project” and this time go to “Options“, check “Always mine with this key” and select the key you just generated

Now the wallet is set and ready to go..

3 Next thing to do is to extract the PascalCoin Miner v.02 archive

4 Inside the folder create a “New text document”

• Open the “New text document” file you just created and paste the following code:  PascalCoinMiner.exe -s localhost:4009 -p 0 -d 0 -n 1stMiningRig , if you have more than one GPU you should change -d 0 with -d 0,1 if you have 2 GPUs, for 3 -d 0,1,2 etc.. (replace 1stMiningRig with your miner name/wallet”, save the file and close it
• Then rename the file from .txt to .bat
• Now start the .bat file and the cmd window will popup with mining informations

IMPORTANT:

• if cmd close right after start open the .bat file and add a new line and type “pause”, save it and close
• -s localhost is enough if you have only one mining rig. Otherwise, you might want to create a local network for all your active rigs. Then, you will use the local network IP for your wallet.
• –p command parameter. As most users report, 0 is the parameter you will be using in most of the cases
• –d parameter to assign the desired GPU cards to work

Finally, use the  Here’s how the parameter command line should look like:

As you could notice, we got one mining rig (-s localhost) with six GPU’s (-d 0,1,2,3,4,5). You get the idea.

3. nVidia GPU PascalCoin (PASC) Solo Mining on Windows Tutorial

1 Make sure you have downloaded and isntalled the wallet, follow the instructions from “AMD RADEON” tutorial

2 Now that you have the wallet ready, download the miner

• link to the PascalCoin CUDA Miner

3 Extract the files from archive and start the “PascalProxyv2.jar” file

• In CMD you will see the message “Please enter the desired host…“, type the following ip: 127.0.0.1
• The it will show “Please enter the desired port…” which is: 4009
• “Please enter the numbers of GPUs to support…” , since i have one i will add: 1
• Then “Please enter the miner name prefix…” is the one you created afters installed the wallet, in my case is: 1stMiningRig
• Minimize the window leave it there

4 Inside the archive create a “New text document” and open it

• add the following code in document:  PascalCoinCUDA_ProxyMiner_sm52.exe d0 p0 i23 c50 
• rename the file to what you want and change the file extension from .txt to .bat
• start the .bat file and the miner will begin

Hey.. here is something new i just started to mine ZCash just to see how it goes and if some of you are interested to do the same here is a quick tutorial with how to pool mine ZCash on Windows with CPU & GPU using nheqminer.

For this i will be using my personal laptop (btw i will keep the miner up and running)

Let’s start! note that this is for nVidia GPU!

1. Download nheqminer here If you have AMD GPU then download this
2. Once downloaded unzip the atchive and enter the directory, it should be named nheqminer_v0.2_flypool
3. Inside the directory create a new text document and rename it to “flypool.txt“
4. Now we will have to create a wallet key for ZCash if you don’t have one yet, i prefer kraken.com , if you have an account with them go to “funding“, on the left menu at the bottom you will find “Zcash (ZEC)” and click on it, the click “Generate New Address” and wait few seconds.
5. Open “flypool.txt” document, and paste the following: “nheqminer.exe -cd 0 -t 6 -l eu1-zcash -u YOURWALLETKEY.myrigname”. -cd 0 means that i want to mine with my GPU if you have 3 GPUs then it should look like this “-cd 0 1 2”. -t 6 means how many threads should use from your CPU, my CPU has 8 threads but i am using only 6.
6. Add your wallet key instead of YOURWALLETKEY and change “myrigname” to something personal like MYPC then save “flypool.txt” as “flypool.bat“.
7. Open “flypool.bat” file by double click on it and the miner will automatically start.
8. To check your progress go to http://zcash.flypool.org/ and top right enter you wallet key.

If you don’t want to mine with the GPU remove the “0” from ” “-cd 0“, this is how i am doing it now because my laptop is getting laggy

UPDATE:  NOVEMBER 5 2016

New Nicehash nheqminer version, download it here , you will have to modify the flypool.bat file.

1. Open it with notepad
2. Your v2 code is “nheqminer.exe -cd 0 -t 7 -l eu1-zcash -u WALLETKEY.miner1“
3. Change “eu1-zcash” to “eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3333” it should look like this “nheqminer.exe -cd 0 -t 7 -l eu1-zcash.flypool.org:3333 -u WALLETKEY.miner1“
4. That’s it, save the notepad and close it and then start it.

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to get access to your ethereum mining rig from a different device via SSH / Putty. This way, you’ll be able to connect with your rig from a friend’s PC, android / iOS smartphone, tablet, Windows server, etc.

The idea to create this tutorial was born when I had to leave town for a couple of days. I was really concerned about my mining rig. After all, it could get a bug and stop mining, or there could be an internet issue and I wouldn’t be there to fix it. Although some issues cannot be fixed from a third-party device, I wanted at least to be informed if something happened to my rig.

I usually check the temperature and other parameters of my mining rig through USERNAME.ETHOSDISTRO.COM, but any IP changes invalidate the access with my current ID. Hence, I really needed to have a more reliable way to connect with my rig from anywhere, any time of the day. Basically, I needed to link my phone to it.

After many hours of researches, experimentations, and trial and error I’ve finally found a way to access my rig through SSH. I’m really thankful to tntor from the #ethereumOS irc channel for his valuable insights.

Some people recommend using Teamviewer for that purpose. Although it is a proven method that does works, personally I find it a bit messy. In order to do that, I need a virtual keyboard so I can use the Linux commands like CTRL+O to save the file, ENTER to confirm and CTRL+X to exit, and so on. I mean, in my opinion, the Teamviewer method requires too much useless key tapping, which is something I want to avoid.

On the other hand, it’s good to have Teamviewer as a back up option. If you’ve got access to a PC, you can use it to access your mining rig, check how it’s going, and so on. But you don’t always have access to a PC when you’re traveling, do you? Let’s avoid this PC inception and see how you can access your rig from your phone

Best ways to access your ethOS mining rig via SSH and control it

First of all, use your default IP to login to your router. The default IP is usually 192.186.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. After you’ve logged in with your username and password, look for the VPN Settings tab (depending on the router, it might have a slightly different name with a similar meaning)

For this tutorial I’m using an Asus Dual Band Wireless-N 600 SOHO Router (RT-N53), with the following Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374_311. It’s a great router, by the way!

As you could notice, it has a simple interface. After introducing the username and password, we go directly to the VPN Server tab.

Once you access your VPN Server tab/page, there should be some instructions regarding VPN setup. Try to follow those if your router is different than mine. I’ll list the instructions for my router as an example (they might be similar to yours, by the way):

VPN Server – Basic Config

The VPN server allows you to access your home network anytime, anywhere.
Please follow these steps to configure your VPN Server:

(1) Enable the PPTP VPN server
(2) Set the IP pool for client IP. (Maximum 10 clients)
(3) Set up the username and password for VPN client.
(4) Open the VPN connection program on your computer or smartphone.
(5) Add a new PPTP VPN connection and the VPN server address is xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
(6) If your WAN IP address is dynamic, please click here to set the DDNS.
(7) VPN Server FAQ

(1) Enable the PPTP VPN server

The Enable PPT Server option should be visible in your router’s VPN settings page. Check yes or enabled and click Apply!

(2) Set the IP pool for client IP. (Maximum 10 clients)

This should be added automatically once the PPTP is enabled. Hence, I haven’t had to do any modifications in this field.

(3) Set up the username and password for VPN client.

After you fill the Username and Password fields, click the PLUS button to add the client to the router’s VPN database. After that, go to the VPN details tab, and choose Both for Broadcast Support. Click the Apply button once again.

(4) Open the VPN connection program on your computer or smartphone.
(5) Add a new PPTP VPN connection and the VPN server address is xx.xxx.xxx.xxx

If your provider doesn’t use a dynamic IP address then you’re all set.

In my case, though, I have a dynamic IP. I do have the option to switch to a static IP, but the dynamic one is quite useful in some situations If that’s your case too, then follow these steps:

(6) If your WAN IP address is dynamic, please click here to set the DDNS.

In my router, when I click on the highlighted text please click here to set the DDNS, it redirects me to a page called WAN – DDNS. Alternatively, you can find this page in the WAN settings tab. Once there, enable the DDNS client. For instance, ASUS kindly provides a free DDNS host; hence “WWW.ASUS.COM” is the best choice for me and for any ASUS router user.

After selecting the Asus DDNS host, enter a username for your host. You’ll be using it later to connect to your VPN server. Your username will have this format: username.asuscomm.com. Don’t forget to click Apply before proceeding.

You can access the VPN Status page to see if someone’s connected to your VPN server.

Now that your VPN is all set, all we have to do now is connect to it and then access our mining rig via SSH!

Connecting to yout VPN from an Adroid device (smartphone, tablet)

Follow these 10 steps and, after some gentle tapping, you’ll have access to your home network:

1. Go to the Settings page of your Android device
2. Choose More networks or Wireless & Networks
3. Tap the VPN option
4. Tap the PLUS sign to add a new VPN Server address
5. VPN Details: You’ll need to fill two fields. The first field, called name, will define how the network will appear on your device; hence, you can type anything in there. The second field – server address – should contain the username.asuscomm.com of your VPN.
6. Once done, select the VPN server you’ve just added
7. Enter the username and password that you set on your router: MyUsername and MyPassword
8. Tap on Connect
9. Wait until you get the connection confirmation message / notification
10. Once you get it, it’s all set! You can check your connection anytime by tapping the appropriate icon on the notification bar

Congratulations! You are now connected to your home network. The next step is to install the needed Android app to access your rig via SSH. Sadly, I don’t own an iOS device which would serve the same purpose. I’ve googled “VPN iOS” and I saw some screenshots of apps that look almost like the ones I’m using on Android, so maybe they would work the same way too.

Connecting to SSH from your Android device

After browsing Google Play and testing several SSH apps, I’ve decided to stick with ConnectBot or VX ConnectBot apps. You can choose any of those two. Both are user-friendly and have all the functions we need. You can read more about them here. Here’s how to use any of those two apps:

1. Download, install and execute ConnectBot
2. Write your rig username IP and port address, like that: ethos@192.168.1.100:22 Wait until it connects
3. Once connected, it will ask you for the password. If you haven’t changed the default ethOS password yet, then you can type live, which is the default / factory one
4. Once you log in, you’ll see the ethOS home/welcome splash screen and the commands
5. Type show miner and tap enter to see the miner progress
6. To get back, tap the CTRL button (situated in the bottom left corner of the screen) and then select Keyboard (a small button on the bottom right corner of the screen) and finally press C.
7. From here you’ll have full access to your rig configuration
8. To disconnect from SSH, tap the return button, and press and hold the green dot. A window will popup where you can tap disconnect or edit your connection settings

I hope you were able to follow these 8 steps without any complications. Now you can control everything your ethOS mining rig does from your favorite Android device.

Connecting to your rig with VPN from a PC using SSH

If it’s possible to do it from a phone, then it’s definitely possible to do it from a PC. The following steps won’t do any invasive changes in your PC. By following the steps below, you can safely use the computer of your friends, family or even a public cyber cafe PC to access to your mining rig. Right now I’m using Windows 10, but I will be adding Windows 8.1, 7 and XP screenshots as well.

First, we connect your PC to the desired VPN server. Here’s how we proceed:

1. Search for Windows and Sharing Center in your search bar and access it
2. Click on Set Up a New Connection or Network
3. Click Connect to a Workplace
4. Create a new connection (skip this step if you don’t have one)
5. Select Use my internet connection (VPN)
6. Then, add your VPN host name username.asuscomm.com and a name for this connection (used as a reference only)

Now it’s time to connect to your VPN host. Please do the following:

1. Type VPN in the search bar. Select the option Change Virtual and Private Networks (VPN) by clicking on it
2. Click on VPN
3. Select the VPN connection we’ve just created and click on Connect
4. After you click that, it will ask you for your VPN’s username and password. Fill the two fields and click on “Ok”/“Connect” and voilà! The connection is now established.

The next step is easy: start Putty, enter the local/lan IP of your rig in the Host Name (Or IP address) field, choose the port 22 and connect.

You can follow the same steps for Windows Server and it will work just fine.

Honestly, wish I had this guide when I went out of town back then. Now that I know these steps, checking my rigs from different locations has never been so easy! I hope that this know-how will be as useful for you as it was (and still is) for me.

How to build a Ethereum mining rig diy tutorial part 4: ethOS installation and configuration!

If you are looking out to use ethOS for etherium mining, here are some quick guidelines that will help you to install and configure it, right away.

Wondering what ethOS is all about? Well, this is simply a 64-bit linux distro that is specifically meant to mine Ethereum while letting you control all your rigs from one particular location. ethOS also lets you drill down to some specific GPUs as and when it is required. How to get ethOS?

ethOS is pre-loaded on a SSD of 16 GB. It is also available for digital download and can be bought at gpuShack.com.

Step 1: Writing ethOS ISO to your SDD, HDD or USB stick

1. You need to get started by downloading and installing the HDD Raw Copy Tool.
2. After this, extract the ETHOS 1.0.4 ISO from the archive.
3. Open the raw copy tool in your HDD.
4. Click the continue option after selecting ethos 1.0.4.
5. Select the drive where you want to install ethos and click continue on it.
6. Click the start button and wait for a couple of minutes for successful confirmation.
7. Finally connect your HDD, USB STICK or SDD to continue.

Step 2: Power up the rig

Once the rig is powered you will see a lot of texts appearing (image 1,2,3,4), no need to do any action, just and wait until the Green logo shows stats like the GPU and CPU..

After it is booted, you will find that the Ethereum logo and the terminal doesn’t have any rig stats for a couple of seconds. If this lasts for more than 2-3 minutes even after rebooting, reboot it once again. In most of the cases, it would not last for more than 2-3 minutes. However, if that happens in case of you, there is no need to panic as you can solve the issue simply by rebooting.

If things seem to go the right way after that, check the top right corner and wait for the system to complete the booting.

As soon as everything is completed, the rig will automatically mine and the speed of the GPU fans will automatically increase, producing a little noise.

Since i have connected only one GPU the hashing power put of the box is 13.2MH/s. After this, we need to carry out the set up. But while continuing with the set up, the following things must be considered:

• The ethOS should be updated to the latest version
  This can be done by typing the command sudo ethos-update && sleep 5 && sudo reboot in the black window. Now hit the enter button and do not interrupt the process of update.
• Set ethOS to the single rig mode
  Run this command to make the remote file completely blank echo -n "" > /home/ethos/remote.conf
• Changing ethOS password
  a) In terminal type passwd and you will see “Changing password for ethos.”
  b) Type default/current password which is “live”
  c) Then type your preferred password twice and that’s it, we secured the rig.

Wallet and GPU configuration

• Run the command nano local.conf and the default settings will be listed like in the image below.
• maxgputemp 85 leave it default for now. This number means that this is the maximum temperature your GPU should reach when the system automatically stops the miner.
• stratumproxy enabled this is a default command and should not modify it.
• Using arrows go down to proxywallet and change the address with yours.
• On proxypool you will see it in 2 lines, proxypool1 and proxypool2, it is because the second link is as a backup and if proxypool1 has connection problems or is down for any other reason then ethOS will connect to proxywallet2. If you are located in EU change proxywallet1 to this one: eu1.ethermine.org:4444
• Save new modifications by pressing CTRL+O then ENTER. CTRL+X to exit local.conf file.

Basic Commands

• In order to get a complete list of commands type helpme in your window.
  
• Check your mining progress by using the command show miner. To stop checking this progress, press CNTRL+C.
  
• Every ethOS installation rig comes with its own ID. This can either be found at the top of the rig or along the side of the terminal. You can also check this online from your phone by logging in to xxxxxx.ethosdistro.com. The information is automatically sent and stays for one minute. But if you’re looking out to check the fresh stats, type terminal update and everything will be automatically re-added.
  
• The miner can be started and stopped by the minestart and minestop.

Overclocking

Now that you’re somewhat familiar with the terminal and the commands, give more power to your rig by configuring the overclock feature.

a) All with one

1. Start by accessing the local.conf
2. Only if you want you can increase maxgputemp to 90 (i personally didn’t do it)
3. Now add the commands globalcore 1150 and globalmem 1500.
4. For the time being, leave the globalfan to 85.
5. Save local.conf settings and exit.
6. Type the command: putconf && ethos-overclock and hit the enter button. Wait for a couple of seconds for the overclock to be applied.

Keep your eyes to GPU temperature, If it doesn’t reach more than 85 then you wouldn’t have to toggle anymore. Tweak the globalfan and set the temperature as low as you can.

b) Individual

1. The first thing you need to do is check your local configuration ID. This can be found in the terminal, mine is 936ff0
2. Now go to local.conf and let’s say that you have 3 GPUs only.
   a) core settings: cor 936ff0 1175 1175 1175
   b) mem settings: mem 936ff0 1600 1600 1600
   d) fan settings: fan 936ffo 85 90 70
3. Save local.conf and exit
4. Now type putconf && ethos-overclock and hit enter. Done.

Using SSH to login to ethOS from Windows

1. Download Putty from http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe (Putty is an executable that can be run without installing)
2. Find the IP of your rig (You can find your rig’s IP on your ethosdistro.com web panel, on your rig’s desktop, or on your router’s DHCP client table)
3. Open Putty and input Rig Information and Type the rig’s IP into Host Name. Port should be 22. Click Open
4. When the terminal window shows up, login with username ethos and your password or default “live”.

Now you are done with ethOS software installation and setup. You are all set! Follow these tweaks for quick and easy ethos installation for your Ethereum mining.

My rig is currently running with 5 GPUs, waiting for my USB riser to be shipped so i can install the 6th GPU!!

Here is my local.conf for now but once i install the 6th card ill set them up individually

Well.. it’s been a lot of fun building my first rig, i hope you enjoyed as much as i did. Let’s hope the mining process last a bit more longer so we can take advantage of it and to make some nice ethers.
