You have probably heard about or even used the Antminer S9 ASIC Bitcoin Miner before. It was one of the most innovative and sought-after miners until it suddenly disappeared from the market then to be replaced with the new AntMiner T9 ASIC Bitcoin Miner. There are mixed opinions about the new T9 ASIC because it offers less hashrate while having the same power consumption.

According to official specs, the AntMiner T9 ASIC consumes 1450W for 11.5 TH/s, while the S9 outputs 14 TH/s for almost the same power consumption (1372W with Batch 23). S9 could also be used with Batch 22 to output 11 TH/s at 1078W. Consequently, we can observe a difference in power efficiency as well – the S9 features 0.098 J/GH, compared to the T9’s 0.126J/GH.

This makes us question why would Bitmain replace the widely-loved S9? The answer is in the chip specs. S9 had lower quality chips which led to worse stability. S9’s pre-autofreq issues were something many people complained about. Looks like that issue could only be solved by modifying the chips and making a issuing a new model to the market. What remains the same is the cooling system, dimensions and rated voltage. The chips have the same code, but they clearly perform differently.

While not everyone is happy with the change, we can say for sure that the AntMiner T9 ASIC is at least more stable and trustworthy than its predecessor.
